Interview with a Vampire - Anne Rice

The coolest thing about this book was that while I was reading it, I could both taste and smell blood. The descriptions of the feedings are so provocative and descriptive that I actually confused my brain into thinking that was me drinking that yuppie's blood. The book wasn't really all that interesting otherwise though. It was really cool reading about being a vampire and having eternal life, but the style of the book detracts from its power. The book actually is an interview, even though if it were a real life interview it would terrible, but Louis is talking about his own life as a vampire. This isn't that much of a problem because for most of the book he simply narrates, but it's his tone that's the problem. This guy is a three hundred year old vampire who has had to kill every single night to sustain himself. He's old, bored and very cynical. This isn't exactly the best person to be telling an interesting story because he frankly isn't really interested in it himself. All the really cool parts are tempered and leave you wanting more in a bad way. Yeah it was exciting and daring and everything, but it was just a pulp read with a few minor moral references to the very nature of having to feed off of other humans for your life blood. Anyone who knows what a vampire is has considered that anyway. In my opinion, it is actually more worthwhile to go and see the movie for an exciting thrill and a chance for the ladies to enjoy brad Pitt.
Not riveting but not really bad either.
